3D Printing some characters

By | July 19, 2015

I’ve had this little “shop” at shapeways for a while now, and every now and then I upload a model to it. Mostly just for fun, but this time I wanted to make molds of some characters, and then just make lots of them for a small side project.

So I dug up some old files from newfella, cleaned the models up a little and prepared them for 3D printing. Then I uploaded them and ordered them to be delivered to my door. And for a shameless plug, you can get any of these models at shapeways. The link opens in a new window.

The mold making will be another post, because it might get a bit heavy on images.

01

A line up of most of the characters.

02

Close up of the first bunch.

03

The guys having fun at a game.

04

Stickmen work together to keep their eggs in the basket.

05

And even the shark with the friggin laser showed up. Pretty fine details in this print.

06

The shark came out nicely as well. I re-did this one for the mold though, because while the print may be stronger than it looks, the plastic once I cast it was pretty brittle. Haven’t ordered the new version yet, but it had thicker fins and should make a better mold.

07

Most of the gang on their assigned bookshelf.

08

Stickman’s dynamic poses. Surprisingly strong. The swords were bent on arrival, but after a few days straightened out back to their intended position.
